Peruvian blue opal is relatively rare and is only found in the Andes mountains near San Patricio, Peru. It is a moderately translucent stone with a blue-green color quite similar to the Caribbean Sea.This is the national stone of Peru .
Opal is most abundant in volcanic rocks, especially in areas of hot-spring activity. The finest gem opals have been found in Australia; other areas that yield gem material include Japan, Mexico, Peru, Honduras, India, New Zealand, and the US.
